The first quarter of FOSDA’s Violent Incidents Report places the Greater Accra Region at the top of recorded cases across Ghana. The region recorded 56 incidents, representing 27.7 percent of all cases documented during the period. This makes Greater Accra the leading region and draws attention to growing safety concerns within the country’s most populated area.
Ashanti Region followed with 37 incidents, representing 18.3 percent. This is 19 fewer cases than Greater Accra. Central Region ranked third with 31 incidents, accounting for 15.3 percent. Together, these three regions recorded a significant share of incidents, showing a strong concentration in urban and coastal areas.
Eastern and Northern Regions each recorded 13 incidents, contributing 6.4 percent each. Volta Region recorded 10 incidents representing 5 percent. Eight other regions recorded single digit incidents ranging from two to eight cases. North East and Ahafo Regions recorded no incidents during the period.
At the zonal level, the Coastal regions made up of Western, Central, Greater Accra and Volta recorded the highest number with 101 incidents representing 50 percent of all cases. The Middle zone recorded 76 incidents, while the Northern zone recorded 25 incidents representing 12 percent of the total.
Physical violence recorded the highest number of cases with 76 incidents representing 37 percent. Economic violence followed with 58 cases representing 29 percent. Gun related incidents accounted for 38 cases representing 19 percent. Social violence recorded 16 cases representing 8 percent. Psychological violence recorded 8 cases representing 4 percent, while sexual violence recorded 6 cases representing 3 percent. No political violence incident was recorded during the period.
