FOSDA actively participated in the recently concluded ’16 Days of Activism Campaign’ by visiting the UPSA campus on December 14, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to interact with students and participants in the ’16 Days’ Creativity Challenge organized by the Women’s Commission of UPSA and supported by FOSDA.

This creative challenge encouraged students to submit diverse works such as poems, drawings, skits, spoken word, video campaigns, and jingles. The focus was on showcasing and raising awareness about the theme, “investing to prevent violence against women and girls through creativity.” A total of 11 contestants, comprising 6 females, 4 males, and 1 group, submitted their entries for online voting and scoring by judge Ms. Dorothy Barnes, who serves as FOSDA’s Programme Officer.

Ms. Barnes had the honour of awarding cash prizes to the top three contestants (2 females and 1 male). On behalf of FOSDA, she also presented a box of pads to the Women’s Commission for distribution among other female contestants who participated in the challenge.

As part of FOSDA’s Talk Women, Peace, and Security series, Ms. Barnes took the opportunity to educate the students on the pillars of UNSCR 1325 and the Ghana National Action Plan (NAP) on 1325. Informative flyers were distributed to enhance awareness in this regard.

This engagement holds significance as it provided a platform to connect with young people and emphasize the importance of preventing violence against women and girls. Additionally, it facilitated a physical interaction for FOSDA’s Talk Women, Peace, and Security series, which is typically conducted online – a fitting conclusion to the series for the year.

Among the participants were the contestants, executive members of the Women’s Commission, the S.R.C President, the S.R.C Chief Justice, the S.R.C External Affairs President, and the S.R.C Public Relations Officer.
