Accra, 23 September 2025 – The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), in collaboration with the Canadian High Commission in Ghana, held a policy engagement with development partners to discuss domestic financing and full implementation for Ghana’s Second National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (GHANAP 2).
The meeting emphasized the critical role of development partners in advancing Ghana’s WPS agenda. Participants acknowledged the important contributions development partners have already made in advancing women’s participation, strengthening peacebuilding initiatives, and promoting gender-responsive programming in Ghana. While government leadership is essential, it cannot deliver on this agenda alone. Sustained collaboration and targeted support from partners remain vital.

Recommendations at the meeting included a one-year extension of GHANAP 2 to complete outstanding activities and allow for a smooth transition into GHANAP 3, strengthening coordination mechanisms by clearly mapping “who is doing what” to identify gaps and improve accountability, and focusing advocacy on the value and impact of WPS investments rather than just the financial figures.

In the end, the meeting underscored the need for more coordination, advocacy, and smooth transition between GHANAP 2 and GHANAP 3, as some key steps toward securing long-term support for Women, Peace and Security in Ghana.
