The Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa
(GIABA) is a specialized institution of the ECOWAS, which has the mandate to protect the
economies of West African member States from exploitation for laundering the proceeds of
crime.
The workshop achieved the following:
- Sensitized civil society organizations in 16 WestAfrican Countries on the dangers and consequences of ML / TF in the
region; - Strengthened the knowledge of CSO actors in the fight against ML / TF;
- Sensitized CSOs so that they can carry out advocacy in order to influence the effective implementation of AML / CFT mechanisms at national and regional levels;
- Identified an effective strategy to build a solid network of West African CSOs committed to the cause of AML / CFT.
