The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), with support from Oxfam has held a consultative meeting on the CSO led Green TVET Policy Framework in Accra. The consultative meeting brought together Industry players in Fisheries, Electronics, Food Technology, Garment and Fashion and selected Technical Institutes. The meeting succeeded in sharing the rationale, approach and components of the Model TVET Policy Framework and followed with discussions about its practical application by industry players.
Speaking at the forum, a Board member of FOSDA Mrs. Magdalene Kanne noted the Green TVET framework aligns with the growing need for a transformative approach towards teaching, learning and skills application in the TVET sector. She added that impact of climate change and resource depletion is call to prepare a mindset shit to sustainable skills to help contribute to environmental preservation, energy efficiency and the emerging circular economy.
On the part of the Accountable Governance Programme and Policy Manager at OXFAM, Mohammed Mahamud, Oxfam and partners are aiming to contribute to transforming the TVET sector to respond to the emerging green economy by promoting innovation and policy options in Digital Media and Creative Industries; Green and Renewable Technologies and Digital Fabrication and Smart Manufacturing. He added that the model framework serves as a starting point towards this transformative process.
In a presentation by Eduwatch’s Programme Officer, Kwasi Nimo Jnr on the “Model Green TVET Policy Framework” emphasis was made on the need to ensure the inclusion of the informal sector in the awareness creation, program and skills development processes on the green approaches to ensure total green uptake and responsiveness. Other areas covered were policy’ rationale, approach, indicators, outcomes and other components.
Participants at the plenary discussions called for policy to treat all waste products as a biproduct; increase awareness on green skills development; ensure adequate financial resources for implementation; ensure green compliance and the institution of a Green TVET Day to recognize and award green innovation.
The Forum was held on 8th October, 2025 at the WACCI Auditorium within the University of Ghana campus.
