Today, 12th September, 2024, the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) in collaboration with Africa Education Watch, Youth Empowerment for Life (YEfL), Greater Accra Regional Youth Network (GARYN) and the Ghana Youth Manifesto (GYM) Core Team met with the leadership of the Ghana TVET Service to present and discuss the findings and recommendations of the 2nd edition of My TVET My REPORT.
The My TVET My REPORT is a youth-led monitoring activity of selected TVET institutions which FOSDA has championed since 2021 with the support of OXFAM. The current report focuses on access, quality, financing and green adaptation into the TVET sector.
During the meeting, the key findings discussed were;
• The low inclusion of females and Persons with Disability (PWD) who together account for less than 30% of total participation.
• That in spite of government expenditure of $1billion there are still infrastructure inadequacies
• The limited clarity of Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) implementation
• The Inadequate financing ranging from GHS6 – GHS45 for practical training
• The limited policy guide for Green Adaptation
Per the implementation mandate of the Ghana TVET Service, the team recommended the following

  1. Ghana TVET service should support TVET institutes to develop their Institutional Green Plans (IGPs) and enforce them. This should include Talk shows on green responsiveness to orient and create awareness on green TVET adaptation among students and teachers
  2. Being an implementing agency, the Ghana TVET service should focus on conducting an Inclusive Audit of the TVET sector to unravel the challenges inhibiting access and participation of females and PWDs.
    The meeting ended with commitments from both parties to collaborate more to develop the IGPs for some of the TVET schools and expand the scope of the monitoring activity.
