The Executive Director of FOSDA, Mrs Theodora Williams Anti, has called on the Government of Ghana and other West African States to deliberate and intentionally promote the participation and inclusion of Women in Peace and Security processes. She made this call as a Panelist at the Women, Peace and Security Panel Discussion held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) on Tuesday 16th April, 2024.
Sharing her experiences as an activist in the Women Peace and Security space, Mrs Anti indicated that one of the biggest challenges in the sector is low investment by the government of Ghana and other states in the West African Sub-region. She noted that most governments are not deliberately and specifically funding their National Plans on UN Security Resolution 1325 and that it is one of the main challenges in the sector.
The Executive Director revealed that FOSDA’s project to Monitor the implementation of Ghana’s National Plan in 1325 confirms this assertion. The project is therefore helping to raise awareness about the plan among key stakeholders despite the funding challenges. She urged Governments to own the Women’s Peace and Security Agenda together with development partners.

The Panel Discussion was organized by the KAIPTC in Collaboration with the Australian High Commission in Ghana, WANEP, and WADEMOS. Other Panelists included; Ms Mariam Diallo Drame, President, Association of Women Leadership and Sustainable Development (AFLED), Mali; Ms Nora Da Do Noviekou, Regional Analyst on Women, Peace and Security, West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and Brigadier General Anita Asmah, Ghana Armed Forces
