| FOSDA Welcomes DAAKYE Leadership Fellows – Cohort IV |
 |
| On 27 August 2026, FOSDA welcomed the Daakye Leadership Fellows Cohort IV, a new group of emerging young leaders selected to participate in the Daakye Leadership Project. Over the next 12 weeks, the fellows will engage in interactive learning sessions, leadership development activities, and discussions focused on ethical leadership, personal development, civic responsibility, inclusive governance, peace, security, and sustainable development. FOSDA congratulates all Cohort IV Fellows and welcomes them to the Daakye Leadership community as they begin this journey of learning, reflection, and leadership development. |

| FOSDA Engages ECOWAS on Youth Participation |

| On 19 August 2026, FOSDA joined a delegation comprising Oxfam in Ghana, Oxfam in Nigeria, Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), and West African Youth Alliance (WAYA) in Abuja to engage the ECOWAS Commission and ECOWAS Parliament on youth participation in regional decision making through the proposed ECOWAS Youth Parliament (EYP) Initiative. The delegation met with the outgoing Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Dr. Abdel Fatau Musah, key officers of the ECOWAS Commission, and the new Secretary General of the ECOWAS Parliament, Dr. Dédou Pagnamsi Hemou, and senior management. The engagements provided opportunities to explore areas of collaboration and strengthened FOSDA’s commitment to working with CSOs across West Africa to advance the EYP campaign and create meaningful spaces for youth participation in regional decision making. |

| FOSDA Commenmorates International Youth Day |

| On 12 August 2026, FOSDA commemorated International Youth Day with a statement highlighting the shared aspirations of young people across West Africa for quality education, decent work, peace and security, accountable governance, meaningful participation, and the opportunity to shape the future of their communities. The statement highlighted the Ghana Youth Manifesto as evidence of young people’s ability to identify their priorities, influence public policy, and hold leaders accountable. Drawing on more than two decades of work in strengthening youth leadership through initiatives including NNYOG, WAYA, GYDEP, and the Daakye Youth Leadership Programme, FOSDA reaffirmed its commitment to meaningful youth participation, including its advocacy for an ECOWAS Youth Parliament. Under the theme “Different Contexts. Common Aspirations,” FOSDA emphasized that meaningful youth inclusion is essential to building a peaceful, secure, and stable West Africa. |

| GOWA Week: Open Letter to The Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons ‘Toward a More Inclusive Approach to preventing Armed Violence’ |

| During the 2026 Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence, FOSDA wrote an open letter to the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, calling for a more inclusive approach to preventing armed violence in Ghana. The letter highlighted the importance of meaningful participation by women, youth, survivors of armed violence, persons with disabilities, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, and affected communities in shaping arms control policies. FOSDA also called for stronger community based early warning systems, public awareness on illicit firearms, improved coordination among relevant institutions, and the use of disaggregated data to support evidence based policymaking. The statement reaffirmed FOSDA’s commitment to people centred and inclusive approaches to arms control and the prevention of armed violence in Ghana. |

| On African Women’s Day, FOSDA celebrates women across Africa for their vital contributions to peace, conflict resolution, livelihoods, and community resilience. FOSDA reaffirms its commitment to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, advocating for women’s meaningful participation as leaders, mediators, and builders of lasting peace. Investing in women’s leadership is essential to achieving peaceful, secure, and resilient communities across Africa. |
