Advancing the WPS Agenda: Students of St. Mary’s SHS Inspired to Pursue Security Careers at “Give to Gain” Outreach
Seventy-five students of the St. Mary’s Senior High School Air Force Cadet Corps in Korle Gonno, Accra, expressed interest in pursuing careers in peace and security following a girls’ outreach session organized by FOSDA to commemorate International Women’s Day under the theme “Give to Gain.”
Held with funding support from Global Affairs Canada, the session brought together female professionals from the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prison Service, National Peace Council, and civil society to engage the students on leadership, peacebuilding, gender equality, and opportunities for women in the security sector.
Discussions highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence, dialogue, rehabilitation, anti-human trafficking efforts, and the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
The students were encouraged to become ambassadors of peace, challenge bullying and stigma, and contribute meaningfully to their communities and future professions.
FOSDA Participates in West Africa Youth Convening on Peace, Peacebuilding and Security
FOSDA joined young peacebuilders from across West Africa to co-create the Accra Youth Declaration on Peace and Security during the 3-day Summit on Peace, Peacebuilding and Security held under the theme “Leaders of Today, Not Tomorrow.”
The Declaration highlights key priorities for strengthening youth participation in peace and security, including dedicated funding, youth representation in decision-making, investment in livelihoods, safe spaces for dialogue, and stronger engagement with traditional leaders.
Convened by Conciliation Resources, Northcode Ghana and Indigo Côte d’Ivoire with support from Global Affairs Canada, the Summit brought together participants from seven West African countries to share experiences, build skills, and commit to advancing peace and security across the region.
VIOLENT INCIDENT REPORT: 1st Quarter 2026
FOSDA’s National Media Monitoring Center released its latest statistical update in March 2026, offering a data-driven look at the security landscape across Ghana.
The report identified 69 violent incidents in the preceding month, with notable concentrations in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, and Central Regions.
The monitoring categorized these incidents into physical, economic, and gun-related violence, providing security agencies and researchers with a clear map of national hotspots.
This ongoing data collection is a cornerstone of FOSDA’s watchdog role, supporting advocacy for early-warning systems and more effective community policing.
