To commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD) under Global Campaign theme, “Inspire Inclusion”, the National Peace Council (NPC) in collaboration with Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) engaged the Students of Accra Wesley Girls Senior High School (SHS) in Kaneshie on Friday, 8th March 2024.
In a bid to inspire inclusion and promote awareness about the vital role of women in peace and security, a girls outreach program was organised by the NPC for about 400 Students of Accra Wesley Girls SHS. As a partner to this event, FOSDA gave a presentation on Women’s role in the peace and Security Sector and the careers girls can pursue in that sector.
This presentation was done by FOSDA Gender and WPS Project Officer, Ms. Dorothy Barnes.

This interaction aimed not only to educate but also to empower young minds to aspire to greater heights.
The event kicked off with a keynote address by Ms. Semefa Asimenu, the head of the Gender Unit in the National Peace Council, who spoke about the importance of International Women’s Day and the need to have more women leading in decision- making spaces.
Throughout the event, students were encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, and share their thoughts.
As the event concluded, the energy and enthusiasm among the students were palpable. The event was also sponsored by Flora tissue, top choco and verna mineral water who graciously donated items to the school.

In essence, the visit to Accra Wesley Girls served as a reminder of the transformative power of education and dialogue in shaping attitudes and fostering positive change. By engaging with girls and empowering them to become agents of peace and inclusion, we take a significant step towards building a more equitable and harmonious world for all.
