The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), in collaboration with the MISORNU Safety Center, has strengthened its engagement with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) through a working visit and high-level brainstorming meeting aimed at advancing youth-led security and promoting safer school environments across Ghana.
The meeting, held at the National Cadet Corps Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, brought together key stakeholders to explore practical ways of empowering cadet structures within educational institutions to address growing concerns around indiscipline, violence, bullying, substance abuse, and other forms of unlawful behaviour among students.
The FOSDA–MISORNU delegation engaged NCC leadership to better understand the Corps’ operational framework and its role in shaping disciplined, responsible, and security-conscious young citizens. The NCC, widely recognized as a structured youth development platform, continues to instill values of patriotism, leadership, civic responsibility, and volunteerism through paramilitary training, leadership exercises, and community service programmes.
The engagement also built on a recent joint virtual training organized by FOSDA and MISORNU on 5 May 2026 at Adanwomase in the Ashanti Region, which trained over 200 volunteer cadet leaders in youth leadership, school safety, responsible behaviour, and violence prevention.
The National Coordinator of the NCC, Mr Nicholas Armatefio, described incidents of violence, drug abuse, and indiscipline in some schools as worrying, and emphasized the importance of leveraging the Corps’ nationwide structure to address these challenges.
“The National Cadet Corps is one of the biggest youth organisations where the spirit of volunteerism and responsible behaviour remains its core philosophy,” he noted.
The discussions further revealed strong alignment between FOSDA, MISORNU, and the NCC, leading to the identification of key areas for collaboration, including joint training programmes, community safety outreach, leadership development, and the integration of modern safety practices into cadet activities.
FOSDA’s Executive Director, Mrs Theodora Anti, and DCOP (Rtd.) David Eklu commended the NCC’s contribution to youth development and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote safer learning environments and responsible citizenship.
The partnership is expected to harness the combined strengths of policy advocacy, safety education, and youth mobilisation to build safer schools, strengthen community resilience, and empower a new generation of security-conscious leaders in Ghana.
