As we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) urges governments, Security Institutions, development partners, civil society and all other stakeholders to make the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda truly resonate in our communities, we must:
1. Recommit: Recommit to and reinvigorate the original principles and tenets of UNSCR 1325 toward inclusive peacebuilding.
2. Invest: Invest intentionally and directly in women’s peacebuilding networks and leadership at all levels; strategically prioritize domestic financing of the WPS agenda
3. Restructure: intentionally and boldly Restructure power dynamics to ensure women don’t only represent but women meaningfully shape decisions and peace processes
4. Include : include Men and young men as allies in the advocacy for the WPS and gender equality qgenda.
Women Peace and Security is more than a policy decision, it’s a commitment to inclusive, resilient, and enduring peace
