As part of Ghana Youth Manifesto processes to contribute to inclusive and accountable societies, on, 12th September, 2024, representatives of the Ghana Youth Manifesto (GYM) Core team participated in a meeting with the Ghana TVET Service to highlight one of their main discoveries in the GYM survey. The main point of interest was the finding that suggests 33% of the GYM survey respondents with TVET education background were unemployed.
The Core team made the point that unemployment among TVET holders is the third highest at 33% compared to all other levels of education. Even though touted as the education that leads immediately to self-employment the GYM survey also showed that another one third of the TVET respondents were also self-employed representing the 2nd highest among the various levels of education. The GYM core team expressed worry that they would have expected to see the lowest share of unemployment among TVET education holders. The GYM core team called for collaborated efforts to unravel the underlying factors driving this new development
The TVET Service on their part called for further investigation and segregation studies to understand the dynamics in the various trade areas and levels of unemployment for policy intervention.
