On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, FOSDA led the Ghana Chapter of the UNOWAS Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace, and Security (WGWYPS-GH) to donate relief items to the victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage in the Volta region and other affected parts of Ghana. This donation was done through the National Broadcaster, GTV.
The Working Group is predominantly made up of organizations and individuals who work to promote Women, Youth, Peace and Security issues.
In the presentation to GTV, the Executive Director of FOSDA, Mrs Theodora Williams Anti, who led the delegation of the working group, said the disaster is a human security issue. She said the Working Group is very concerned about the plight of women and children in this disaster as they are differently affected. She hopes that this donation
will contribute to national efforts to bring some relief to the victims.
The donation included 70 packs of bottled water, 42 packs of toilet rolls, 4 boxes of sanitary pads, and an amount of GHC5000 to the victims of the spillage.
FOSDA and the Working Group are committed to mitigating all threats of economic security, food security, health security, environmental security, personal security, and community security for all the victims, especially women and young people.
