On 11th July 2023, The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) organised an interface meeting between CSOs in the gender, peace and security sector and the Ghana National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (NACSA).

This meeting was organised in partnership with IANSA and was under the theme, “Promoting Dialogue and a Culture of Peace: Taking Action to End Gun Proliferation and Gender-Based Gun Violence”.

The objective of the meeting was to generate a conversation on the gender dynamic on small arms control mechanisms as well as the role of CSOs in minimizing Gender-based gun violence.
Some outcomes of the meeting included improved knowledge and awareness among CSOs on gender implications of small arms proliferation and control. CSOs present also improved their appreciation of the Small Arms Commission’s mandate.

During this meeting, the participants explored recommendations for improving women’s participation in arms control in Ghana and for advocating for effective gun laws and control.
The NACSA has therefore improved its relationships with CSOs, including FOSDA, towards reducing gender-based gun violence in Ghana.
