On February 15, 2023, the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) paid a working visit to the National Centre for Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanism in Ghana (NCCRM-Ghana) in Accra. In a discussion at the Centre, The Executive Director of FOSDA, Mrs Theodora Williams-Anti indicated that the purpose of the visit was for FOSDA to better understand and appreciate the work of the centre and how it operates. The meeting was also to explore possible areas of collaboration between FOSDA and the NCCRM in the pursuit of human security in Ghana and West Africa.
The Director of the NCCRM-Ghana, Col. Joseph K. Merdiemah, who welcomed the FOSDA team to the Coordinating Centre, expressed his appreciation at FOSDA’s decision to visit the centre and the purpose of the visit. He indicated that per the mandate of the Centre, Civil Society Organisations are key stakeholders of the Centre. Hence, FOSDA’s visit was important.
A presentation by Madam Jamila Jakalia, the Analyst for Governance and Human Rights at the NCCRM, showed that the Centre is established by an Act of Parliament referred to as the National Centre for Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanism 2021, Act 1070 passed by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana on 6th August 2021. The NCCRM-Ghana was then launched on 12th November 2021 and it is tasked with promoting Human Security in Ghana by monitoring, collecting, collating and analyzing data that poses a threat to the country’s Peace and Security in order to counter and prevent all forms of insecurity.
