FOSDA and Partner CSOs Advocate for Increased Youth Participation and Representation in ECOWAS Decision Making Processes

The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), together with the West African Youth Alliance and The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), and with the support of Oxfam in Ghana, is advocating for increased participation and representation of youth in decision making especially at the ECOWAS level.
On 2nd December 2022, we held a meeting with the Speaker of the ECOWAS parliament, Honorable Sidie Mohammed Tunis of Sierra Leone. to share our proposals on how to increase the voices of the youth in decision making processes.
The meeting took place at the ECOWAS Parliament Headquarters in Abuja during the 2022 Second Ordinary session of the Parliament.

The speaker welcomed the idea of youth participation and representation and deliberate integration of young people into decision making processes at the level of ECOWAS and the ECOWAS Parliament. He expressed the commitment of the ECOWAS Parliament to create safe spaces for youth participation and representation in decision making.

He said the voice of young people must be heard on issues and decisions taken, especially those concerning them, especially in the area of education, health, employment among others. This is not only their right but also an opportunity to develop leaders and promote peace and security in the sub-region.
