As part of efforts to shore up the position of women in politics, FOSDA undertook a study on female parliamentary candidates in the three regions of northern Ghana. The study was conducted by the center for Continuing Education and Inter-disciplinary Research (CCEIR), University for Development Studies (UDS) during the run up to Ghana’s 2012 election.

The  research was on the topic “Increasing Women’s Participation in Northern Ghana: Experiences, Expectations Strategies and Support given to women parliamentary aspirants by FOSDA before and after the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The  research also captured women parliamentary aspirants in six constituencies on their campaign trails, got insights into their political activities;their campaign strategies, messages, weakness and strength. Some of the key findings show that the number of women who desire to contest political as MPs, Assembly Persons and Unit Committee Members is increasing
